John Carter and Salomao Hamzem met in 2012 while playing at open mics in West London area. They admired each others playing and it seemed natural to play together. After that, they decided to take it to the next stage and write songs together.
John has had many years experience in the music business and has written dozens of hit songs and been in bands like: The Ivy League, Carter Lewis and Southerners, Flowerpot Men, Kincade and The First Class.
Salomao also had experience playing classical music in orchestras and gospel bands in Brazil, his native country, and plays guitar, bass, drums and French horn.
As writers, they wanted to try something a bit different so hit on the idea of writing songs together in English and Portuguese. The first album "A Friend In Need" is a result of this collaboration followed by "Coming Home" and the latest "Time Will Tell" which are available on all digital platforms.
When John and Sal were thinking about names for the band, they came up with the idea of combining the first part Salomao's surname of Hamzem and the last part of Carter making "HAMZTER". That's why the hamster has become their mascot.
Hamzter impressed with their infectious blend of Brit-pop and Brazilian beats on their latest album Time Will Tell.
John Carter and Salomao Hamzter are two halves of the whole that is Hamzter. A British pop duo who tosses in a Latin flavour with a combination of English and Portuguese lyrics based on their acoustic charm. A charm that can be found on their albums.
Hamzter have gotten things down to a sort of science when it comes to writing, recording and perfecting what it is they want to do with music. John Carter and Sal Hamzem work seamlessly together to marry the cadences of British Pop with a Brazilian palette of flavour that brings their intercontinental sound to a whole new level within many tracks that make up the confines of .
Collaborating equally just about every step of the way, the men of Hamzter not only share writing duties on their album, but also guitar, ukulele, bass, keyboard and other instruments. They share their music with one another just as much as they share the stage due to their admiration of one another. Which has always been the case. When they first met, they applauded one another’s talents. They knew soon enough they had to play together.
After years of work, they dropped 3 albums which was just the beginning. Now they are on pace to drop a new Hamzter album and also keep writing songs for other artists.
While they are a dynamic duo together, they each come with an impressive background.
British pop with a twist, Hamzter is the type of music fan who likes to take risks when they listen. They are for people looking for that unique sound. Who are tired of the same song on the radio.
