John Carter and Salomao Hamzem met in 2012 while playing at open mics in West London area. They admired each others playing and it seemed natural to play together. After that, they decided to take it to the next stage and write songs together.
John has had many years experience in the music business and has written dozens of hit songs and been in bands like: The Ivy League, Carter Lewis and Southerners, Flowerpot Men, Kincade and The First Class.
Salomao also had experience playing classical music in orchestras and gospel bands in Brazil, his native country, and plays guitar, bass, drums and French horn.
As writers, they wanted to try something a bit different so hit on the idea of writing songs together in English and Portuguese. The first album "A Friend In Need" is a result of this collaboration and they have now released their second album "Coming Home" which is available on all digital platforms.
When John and Sal were thinking about names for the band, they came up with the idea of combining the first part Salomao's surname of Hamzem and the last part of Carter making "HAMZTER". That's why the hamster has become their mascot.
London, England – March 16, 2018 – In 2017 Hamzter impressed with Coming Home and they’ll do it all over again with their infectious blend of Brit-pop and Brazilian beats on this year’s Time Will Tell.
John Carter and Salomao Hamzter are two halves of the whole that is Hamzter. A British pop duo who tosses in a Latin flavor with a combination of English and Portuguese lyrics based on their acoustic charm. A charm that can be found not only on their 2017 album, Coming Home but also on their newly released album in 2018 entitled Time Will Tell .
Their third album in three years, Hamzter have gotten things down to a sort of science when it comes to writing, recording and perfecting what it is they want to do with music. John Carter and Sal Hamzem work seamlessly together to marry the cadences of British Pop with a Brazilian palette of flavour that brings their intercontinental sound to a whole new level within the 10 tracks that make up the confines of Time Will Tell.
Collaborating equally just about every step of the way, the men of Hamzter not only share writing duties on their album, but also guitar, ukulele, bass, keyboard and other instruments. They share their music with one another just as much as they share the stage due to their admiration of one another. Which has always been the case. When they first met in 2012, they applauded one another’s talents. They knew soon enough they had to play together.
After years of work, they dropped their debut album together in 2016. A Friend in Need was just the beginning. Now they are on pace to drop an album every year.
While they are a dynamic duo together, they each come with an impressive background. John has years of experience writing dozens of hit songs and been in a multitude of bands including; The Ivy League, Carter Lewis and Southerners, Flowerpot Men, Kincade and The First Class. Salomao also has a musical past. He has played classical music in orchestras and gospel bands in his native country of Brazil.
British pop with a twist, Hamzter is the type of music fan who likes to take risks when they listen. They are for people looking for that unique sound. Who are tired of the same song on the radio.
